Grand Canyon National Park is located in northwestern Arizona and is the 15th oldest park in the United States. The park’s central feature is the Grand Canyon itself, a gorge carved over millennia by the waters of the Colorado River. The full canyon is much bigger than most people realize, measuring 277 miles long, 4 to 18 miles wide, and over a mile deep! It is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
This painting depicts the south rim of the Grand Canyon in the late afternoon, when the canyon walls are bathed in the unforgettable orange colors that have captured the heart of so many visitors. Artist Eric Dowdle has captured the relaxed feeling of a summer vacation and features many notable South Rim landmarks, including Bright Angel Lodge, The El Tovar Hotel, and the Desert View Watchtower to the East, and of course, the Grand Canyon Railway. Past visitors to the Canyon will certainly recognize these sites, but also realize that no painting can do full justice to the majesty of this scenic wonder, though this puzzle does do a wonderful job capturing the approachable grandeur of this remarkable place.
